Why is my 5-year-old Boxer struggling to walk on his hind legs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | 70 lbs

My dog is having problems with his hind legs. It’s like when he gets up fast he falls over but when he stretches them out he’s cautious for a couple steps but sometimes gets his strength back and walks normal but other times he looks like he is having trouble, it looks like he’s starting to walk for the first time! He’s 5 and he’s a boxer! He’s usually a hyper dog always running around but not anymore

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Jeter's care today! Lameness or pain or an abnormal hair can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. In some cases this is actually a nervous system abnormality. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
