Can male and female dogs pass on cryptorchidism? Any genetic test?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chesapeake Bay Retriever | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 9 months old | 80 lbs

Is cryptorchidism passed on from both a female and male dogs? Or just the male? Is there a genetic test to see if your dog carries it?

Cryptorchidism is an autosomal recessive trait. Yes, it can be passed on from both the males and the females. There is not genetic test that I am aware of to check for this. Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to post again if you have more! Best wishes!
