My pet has cancer causing breathing and eating problems. How to help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 4.5 lbs

My little one has salivary cancer; massive growths. They are affecting her breathing, now she gags when eating. I have her on CBD oil & Metacam. What else can I do to increase her quality of life & help her breath/eat more easily? (aside from the article herein). She is so young & sweet; it is such an emotional strain on us. Thank you, Amy

It’s important to keep her quiet with minimal stress. Your veterinarian may decide to switch from the metacam to prednisone at this stage as it may reduce the swelling that may ease her breathing and eating. Unfortunately this sounds like a life threatening cancer at some point so give her lots of love and enjoy every minute with her.
