My new kitten plays rough, hisses, and spits. Is she aggressive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I’ve had Ivy for about a week and a half.. she’s eating well, my two dogs are finally getting use to the new addition.. my only concern is her play.. she’s seems a little rough.. and she does this spitting and hissing thing like a feral cat.. I don’t play with her with my hands bc I don’t want her to think my hand is a toy.. does the spitting and hissing mean she’s going to be an agtessive

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I don't think that hissing during PLAY means that Ivy will be aggressive as an adult. My cats will hiss, at age 9, when we are playing with a feather stick toy. But it could be that she is warning you that she has had enough or she is annoyed with the type of play. When she gets very rough I would stop playing with her so as to not encourage that level of aggressive play. I hope this helps!
