Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. There are some supplements you can try that have been suggested to help reduce the occurrence of acute pancreatitis. I typically recommend a low fat diet along with omega 3 fish oil (Welactin fish oil for dogs) as well as vitamin E supplementation. Some veterinarians have recommended using digestive powders to help try and reduce the work that the pancreas needs to do to digest food. Pancrezyme is one such digestive enzyme powder that you can try. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Here I can talk to you from not only a medical standpoint but also from personal experience as my dog Buzo suffers from chronic pancreatitis. I have been very successful by using a very strict low fat diet. I prefer Royal canin gastrointestinal low fat diet as it contains the lowest fat of all the diets out there used for this same purpose. Because it is never clear what is going to trigger an episode of pancreatitis, it is preferred to avoid feeding pets with history of pancreatitis anything high in fat. There are no nutritional supplements that are recommended in these cases and honestly these may even trigger an episode. Good luck and have a blessed day!

Hello, and thank you for your question. Is Baby Girl already on medication from the vet to treat her pancreatitis? Assuming she is, I would also recommend omega 3 fish oils added to her food, as they can help to reduce inflammation in the pancreas. A bland, low fat, easily digestible diet is also important. Royal Canin GI Low Fat is the best option available. Small frequent meals will allow her to digest it easier as well. I looked up the Honest Kitchen product, and it looks like it is not harmful to give, but it may not necessarily help her pancreatitis. I hope this helps, and that Baby Girl is feeling better soon!

Hello, the royal canin gastro intestinal low fat diet is a good diet to feed a dog with pancreatitis. It is easily digestible which also allows the GI tract to recover from from any dietary insults which may have caused vomiting or diarrhea. You can also try Purina EN or Hills I/D. Best of luck.

Littlebit is a cutie! Royal Canin diets are very high quality diets that are backed with extensive analysis and feeding clinical studies. Meat byproducts, corn meal and beat pulp are not the root of all evil, as many blogs and articles written by non-medical professionals like to claim. :-) In general, brands that I recommend include Royal Canin, Science Diet and Purina ProPlan due to the appropriate testing and controlled studies involving these diets. Take your vet's recommendation - Royal Canin canned foods (I assume the low fat?) can be quite helpful in managing chronic pancreatitis. You can also discuss low fat prescription diets by Science Diet and Purina with your vet to see if your dogs would be wiling to eat this kibbles, if that is your preference. I hope that all goes well!
