Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cane Corso | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 16 days old | 33 lbs

My 4.5 months cane corso does not want to go outside and runs fast when he sees we r going back home. And we are not going too far, only front of the main door. Why this happens and what to do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Some dogs just do not enjoy going outside too much and it takes some encouragement to get them to go outside. Most of the time this is something that happens when they are scared or nervous about their surroundings. This is certainly not uncommon. A few things that you can try are going very slowly and reward progress. As your dog makes progress going outside, go ahead and reward Petrus with praise and also treats. Try to find fun things to do outside that your dog may like such as playing ball so that he associates going outside with something good. Before you know it he will get used to being outside. Good luck!

You just have to make him feel safe again. Start by staying with him while he is outside and carry him if you have too. Praise and reward him when he does well visit there to encourage him to like it more. Being consistent and playing with him outside and taking him places is the best way to get help him get past it
