Can stepping on rat blood barefoot with cracked heels cause rabies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I stood on a rats blood that my assistant killed about half an hour after the incident, ( I would have saved it and released it ) but it was too late, it was hit on the head so I presume there was some saliva in the blood, I was obviously bare footed and have no open sores on my feet but do have cracked heels, is there any way I could have contracted rabies if the animal had been rabid ?

No, infection, from what you are describing would be very unlikely. Unfortunately through this website you can get recommendations only about pets (and animals in general), not human beings; so I would strongly recommend to consult your GP for specific advices about your health. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
