My cat has a sore on her back where a lump was. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

My cat sometimes gets a hard lump on her back but now there's a sore where the lump usually is. I just noticed it a few days ago and it seems to be about the same, I'm just worried because she keeps picking at it.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It appears as though she may have caused some irritation and trauma to the area by licking and chewing at the lump. As with any lump, it is difficult to say what the lump is without further testing such as a needle aspiration or biopsy. A needle aspiration is where the vet will insert a small needle into the mass and look at the cells under a microscope to help determine what it could be. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the area so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
