Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 8 lbs
Hello, We have just noticed 3 days ago the our dog Goober has this strange bump on his lips. It just just one single bump and we do not know where it came from or what caused it. Upon taking him to a vet in-person, the vet informed us it was a “skin tumor” that could possibly cause cancer & wanted to charge us hundreds of dollars to have it removed. My question is, what is it? Is it cancerous? Should we be worried? It is urgently necessary that we have it removed? Thank you for your time!

There is no way to confirm cancer without a sample of the tumor which would be having it removed. Because of the location I would have it removed to be safe. There is not a lot of extra room and skin to have it all removed if it gets much larger. If you elect to monitor it before having it removed that is an option. if there are any color change or it gets larger then that is an indication it may be cancerous and I would have it removed as soon as you can
