My cat is sad after his friend died. How do I help him grieve?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Egyptian Mau | Male | neutered | 3 years and 8 months old

My other cat just died on the 20th. He died probably of an urinary obstruction. Theo was wandering around hopeful, meowing every now and then and sniffing everywhere, looking for his friend. I just decided today to hand him the blanket Furby died on. He promptly smelt it and laid on it and is no longer searching. I'm being vigilant that doesn't also show the same symptoms and doesn't die of heartbreak.

Oh this is so sad and difficult! I am so sorry for your loss of Furby. It is never easy to lose a part of the family and I am sure Theo is grieving as well. You made the right choice by giving him the blanket that Furby passed away on. Give Theo some time as he will start improving over time. Just make sure he is continuing to eat and drink. I hope this helps and with time, you all heal together. Hugs!
