My senior dog has lumps, is slow, and not drinking. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | neutered

15yo jack Russell has single raised lump on back of neck come up. Not irritated when touched. Is skin coloured with a Cauliflower appearance approx 1cm round. Acting very strange, slowed down somewhat. Not drinking as much. Just seems off. Also has a raised lump on nose that appears to be growing. We're not sure whether it's old age as we've had terribly hot weather.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be benign or malignant growths. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Since he has not been drinking well, they would also be able to check if something else is also affecting him by checking into other possible concurrent issues such as gastroenteritis or pancreatitis for instance. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and best wishes!
