My dog has anal gland pain after pooping. What can I give him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 7 years and 8 months old | 8.3 lbs

I asked a question earlier about Cash being uncomfortable due to anal gland problems it seems. He recently pooped and now he is worse and seems to be very uncomfortable where he can’t sit still. We gave him brupenex injection about 2hr ago but not sure how much absorbed bc he was swallowing & doesn’t seem to have helped at all. Is there any other medication safe to give him to help him through the night until 7:30am vet? he’s really uncomfortable

There is nothing over the counter that I can really safely recommend you give Cash unfortunately. Stick with what you have at the house for now. You can safely give another half dose of the buprenex if need be.
