Mix breed dogs would be more common to find at a shelter as opposed to a pure bred dog like a maltese. You can see if there are rescue organizations in your area that specialize in Maltipoos or Malteses, and can adopt from them. Speak to your local shelter or take a visit to see what animals they have available, and you can let them know to call you if they get one of those dogs in the shelter. I hope this helps!

Mason is such a cutie! I think a Morkie is a very reasonable guess based on his appearance. It's also possible that he may have some Miniature Schnauzer in him, especially with his face and beard. He is definitely a handsome guy either way! If you want to know for sure what breed (or breed mix) he is, you can have a DNA test done to determine this. Can you please tell me about adopting shelter dogs and how to take care of them and how to introduce the dog to my household? Just in case I decided to adopt a German Shepherd or Husky or Lab. Thank you!
Adopting a new dog is so much fun! Whenever bringing a new dog into the home, it should be done slowly with the existing animals already there to make the transition smoothly. The new dog should be kept separated from the other animals when home alone to avoid any problems, and their interactions should be monitored when you are home so you can separate them at any problem. I'm not sure if you have any additional animals in the home, but if you have cats for example, it's normal they will hiss at the dog. Do not allow them to swipe at the dog, separating them right away if you notice the cat getting upset. Also do not allow the dog to chase the cats. If you don't have any other animals in your home, then just be patient with the dog as it acclimates to his new house. Moving into a new home can be stressful, and some dogs may not eat or drink at first. This will pass in time. Hi! There is a specific cat breed I’m looking for. Siamese and Lynx Point Siamese. Any idea if there is a shelter that has them?
You would need to contact a shelter near you, or try and find a local rescue. There are many breed specific rescues out there, so doing a google search for the specific breed or coloration you want may turn up some results. Many of these rescues are willing to ship or drive pets if they are not currently in your area.

What a cutie. My guess would be pit bull mix, with a combo of at least 3-4 breeds. If you'd like to know his background there are genetic tests you can do for fun. Embark and Wisdom Panel are both companies that offer this service. Enjoy your new addition!

Hi, I was planning on getting a new puppy since my Golden passed away. Inwanted to get an Australian Shepherd, but I’m not sure if I should get a purebred or adopt a mix . I don’t want to adopt a pet and have it come sick or not have a long lifespan.
I'm very sorry you recently lost your Golden! Please accept my condolences for your loss. Actually mix breed dogs can be healthier than purebred dogs. Purebred dogs can be prone to serious health diseases due to the breeding. For example, Goldens are prone to cancer. A mix breed will have a mix of genes, and may not be as likely to suffer from heritable diseases. I hope this helps!

I live in florida and im preparing for the hurricane. I found a few dog friendly shelters but my dog doesnt have any paperwork or tags. We just got her and my family couldnt afford to get it yet and now its too late. Do you have any advice?
Talk to the shelters about your situation.. Typically in an emergency situation, shelters are understanding as you are not alone and there will be several people in your shoes. Some shelters have volunteer vets that provide vaccine there.

Can dogs get neutered without being adopted?
Many shelters do neuter dogs before placing them up for adoption. As long as they are old enough, usually 3-4 months old they can be neutered. Due to the cost some rescues and shelters don't do this until they are adopted. Check around your area and you may find ones up for adoption that are already neutered. It sounds like he has injured his leg/pelvis and yes if he is reluctant to move he should be assessed by a vet for pain relief and possibly xrays to rule out a fracture or dislocation. Keep him well rested and prevent any jumping, slipping or falling which may further aggravate any injury he may have until you can have him fully assessed

Yes, adoption fees have become quite high for rescue/shelter dogs. But there is something else for you to consider before you sign on the dotted line. The adoption fee is just the beginning. You must also be able to afford food, routine veterinary care, vaccinations, special medications, possibly grooming, and any other "surprises" that may come up over the course of the dog's life. If you feel you will be able to handle additional, unforeseen costs, you might try city or town shelters rather than the private ones. You can Google "dogs for adoption in (your state)" and you will see all the dogs available in that state. But please remember that the only thing worse than a dog being in a shelter is that dog having to return to the shelter if money runs out.

I was wondering what mix breed my dog looks most similar to? I’m aware that it is a poodle mix, but I have no guess to what my dog is mixed with.
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Fluffie. She is adorable! I suspect that she is mixed with a Cocker Spaniel, Shih Tzu or Havenese. Dog DNA test kits are available if you want to know for sure. She could be a combination of more than two breeds. You take a cheek swab and mail it to a laboratory. The DNA results of her breed combination are sent back. I hope this information helps!
