Will my dog's underdeveloped kidneys grow to full size as she ages?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 50.8 lbs

I had question regarding underdeveloped kidneys; I had an ultrasound done before her 1 year birthday on my dog and was advised her kidneys were undeveloped at the time. Is there a chance her kidney will grow to full size as she gets older? She is now 1 years and 3 months almost and wonder if due to her age, her kidneys were still small. She's a mix of boxer pitbull.

Have they done blood work and urine work to asses the functional capabilities of the kidneys? I would put more value in that. She will be is likely full grown at this point and may gain a little more eight but will not get any taller so I wiukd. It think her kidney size would change from here. It is safer to track the urine for subtle kidney changes for a better idea
