What can I put on my sun conure's sore vent from fecal buildup?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 30 years old

Bootie my sun conure,is near 30, had since 2 weeks, , every now and then in the last couple of years, he gets a build up of feces around his bottom. I end up spraying with warm water and kind is squishing off once it's softened. Is there anything I can out on there afterwards to soothe his bottom? Or orevent? I don't pull out feathers, it just gets sore from being close to skin and while it's still there makes it very hard for him to defecate. Thank you

Hi and thank you for your question. 30 is quite an impressive age for a sun conure. Well done! You could use a tiny amount of petroleum jelly directly on the skin around the vent. If you put too much it will make his feathers oily. Regards
