My puppy threw up yellow and won't eat. Can I let her sleep it off?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 11 months and 20 days old | 10.6 lbs

My puppy threw up bilious yellow fluid this morning (normal for her on empty stomach) but the amount was unusual. She ate the same amount of dinner last night as usual. Her stomach is gurgling (again normal) but she’s still refusing to eat. I gave her a little piece of a treat biscuit which she ate fine. But now she’s refusing that as well. She’s not lethargic, she’ll play with me if I grab a toy but she wants to sleep. She did drink little sips of water. Should I let her sleep it off?

It is not unreasonable to wait 24 hours from the first episode of vomit as long as the vomiting is not continual and there is no bloody diarrhea to go with it. I would let her rest and not stimulate her to play. If her appetite is not improved if the vomiting continues then I would get her seen.
