My cat has 104 fever after vet visit. Should I wait or go to ER?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 8 months old | 14 lbs

My cat was seen today at 1pm for a possible infection from small absesss on his cheek. He had 104 fever, 40 resp/min and was given a cephazolin antibiotic IM and 150ml SQ fluid. No food, water, sleeping. Received a response to above 2 hrs ago. Temp is 104 now. He since went downstairs, outside and to th bathroom and came back in. Breathing seems slightly improved. UC Davis is about $300 just to walk in. I’m wondering if it’s ok to wait a few hours or if I need take him in now

I answered your previous question about Ari, and I'm sorry to read that his temperature is still high. Given that it's 104F, yes I would take him into a vet now. That's quite high, and I do think having him seen by a vet now is best. I do recommend taking him into UC Davis with this temperature. Good luck!
