My American Bulldog has red skin. What's the cause and treatment?

My american bulldog has some redness on his skin. There is any medicine on the website that can help ?

Unfortunately it is illegal for the experts of this website to prescribe any medication, including OTC medications, to Spot. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your dog or if it's the correct treatment. There could be a number of reasons for the redness of his skin such as allergies, skin infection (yeast or bacteria), injury, or insects such as fleas or mites. The best thing to do is have Spot seen by a vet on Monday if the redness persists. The vet can diagnose what is causing the redness and how best to treat it. I can recommend giving him an oatmeal bath or an Epsom salt bath. Either may be soothing to his skin and may help with the redness. Good luck!

Hello, recently my dog's skin has turned red at her stomach and chest area. Her back is fine. There's also a brown spot (the photo). I thought it was dirt but I can't clean it off. Any idea what's going on?

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! You may be referring to infected pustules. This is something that is typically treated with anti-microbial shampoos. However, this depends if they truly are due to an infection and the extent of it. For that reason, I highly recommend you check in with your veterinarian for a physical exam prior to starting any therapies. This sounds like he may have gotten into an ant nest or have a secondary skin infection from an allergic reaction. I recommend a veterinary exam and probably antibiotics to heal this skin infection. In the mean time you can bathe Browny in a medicated shampoo and apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on the sores he can't reach to lick. Your veterinarian can also give medication to reduce the itch and inflammation. This sounds painful also so please take him in soon for treatment. Considering the pictures uploaded this presentation could be due to a trauma or a localized spot of skin infection (an '' hot spot'' likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Itchy skin and red bumps like this are often due to one of the following things: 1) Allergies - this can happen suddenly and is usually due to an environmental (i.e pollen) cause. It's good that he was treated for fleas, but I would ensure they are all gone and give treatment if needed. 3) Over-bathing, or using the wrong product for bathing - Bathing too often can cause the skin to get dry and irritated. Dogs should normally be bathed no more than once a month with a shampoo that is labeled for dogs. If you bathe more than that, or use a shampoo, soap, or other product that is meant for people, then you could be damaging the normal protective barrier of the skin. Wondering what this could be and how I should handle it. I just noticed it today
It is hard to tell from the picture, but is there a discharge or an actual opening to the area. If there is then you can keep it clean with mild soap and water until you can get to the vet as it may need antibiotics from being infected. If the area is just red with no breaks in the skin, then I would rotate Neosporin with cortisone cream to apply topically to help it heal. If it spreads or changes, then I would get it checked by your vet. It may be from bug bite or getting scratched out side.
