My guinea pig has mites. What should I do to treat them effectively?

If all three are scratching then I think you are either dealing with lice, mites or fleas most likely. I would recommend to use a product called Revolution on them. This product must be carefully calculated based on the weights of each G pig. I would also recommend to take them to the vet to see if the doctor can identify the cause of the problem. Poor Foxy, mites are a common reason for guinea pigs to scratch incessantly. I am not aware of a safe over the counter product that works for them. My experience has been to use a spot of Revolution (selamectin) onto the skin. Or a drop of ivermectin injectable which is also off label use. The treatment is repeated weekly until no further itching.

Mites can cause this sort of appearance in guinea pigs. The best medication to use to combat mites in rodents is Revolution, a drug marketed for kittens. It requires veterinary prescription to obtain, so you will need to take Reese to see the doctor before obtaining any. Hope this makes sense.

There is no such thing i'm afraid, the only things that kill mites and lice on rabbits and guinea pigs are special medications that are meant just for that (chemicals), such as Revolution or Advantage multi.

Medications such as Revolution are safe for rats for fleas and mites, however the dosing is important as they require less then cats/dogs, and the medication is formulated in packing for dogs/cats. It is important to know the weight of Butters and Lorenzo in order to treat them appropriately. I would recommend calling your vet where you have your cat seen and asking them about dosing for your rats, and see if they would be willing to recommend a dose without seeing Butters and Lorenzo, as they have a relationship with you with your cat. Getting a prescription from a vet without the vet having seen your animal is illegal, and therefore only if you have a good relationship with your vet, will they possibly help you out with this, if they know you and your cat otherwise. If this isn't possible you can try picking the fleas of Butters and Lorenzo, however this won't work for the mites. This will mean you need to save up and bring them to the vet, w

Try not to panic if Sasha has a mild tilt, it could simply be coincidental. The most common used topical treatment is ivermectin, and this is what we know most about, however, there is much resistance to this so quite commonly vets are prescribing selemectin instead. This is the ingredient in revolution and is from the same family as ivermectin. It would seem that it is safe to use, it is very difficult to go wrong with a spot on unless a big overdose is given. You could double check the dose with the vet, but as long as a dose was worked out based on her weight or an average weight for her size then it should be completely fine. If the head tilt is deteriorating or not improving within a few days I would take her to the vet asap. If she has lice it is possible she could have parasites in her ears also that could be the cause. Best of luck.

I would highly recommend taking baby to a vet for a good exam. Young guinea pigs can have skin mites like scabies and this needs to be addressed by a veterinarian. Certain skin mites can also be contagious to people so please monitor yourself for itching. Allergies, skin infections and fungal disease can also cause itchy skin. I hope that helps
