How to prepare my dog for first-time boarding while I'm away?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 65 lbs

I have to go to the hospital in a few days. I will be there 2 weeks. Vet recommended a great boarding place & I researched, spoke at length & will visit tomorrow. Jimmy has never been away from me in 7 months since adopting. He will be in same ‘suite’ as Bonnie, who does well away. Any advice (I will miss them so much but need a new emergency treatment so must go soon.)

Well done in finding and researching a suitable boarding facility and I hope you feel better about it once you have visited! Pheromone collars and specialist diets or supplements such as royal canin calm can help, especially if started before they go in and can help them adjust to a new environment and routine
