Can my healthy dog eat k/d prescription food meant for another?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 lbs

I have 2 chihuahuas. One has recently been placed on prescription k/d Science diet food. Does it hurt to feed the other one this food as well?

K/D is quite a restricted diet and is not recommended for healthy dogs which are still growing or breeding. It is ok for the other dog to snack on some but I would recommend feeding separately for the main meal to ensure they both get a chance to eat the correct food and the dog with kidney disease is eating primarily k/d
