My puppy ate hemorrhoid cream. Does he need an emergency vet visit?

My 54 pound 9 month old puppy ate a tube of hemroid cream he isnt vomiting but his stool os loose. Do i need to take him in or can i just watch him

Oh no, that's not good that Carl ate the hemorrhoid cream! Thank you for providing a picture of the tube, it helps with my answer. I see it contains Phenylephrine HCL 0.25%, which is a decongestant which may cause hyperactivity. I'm not sure about the other ingredients in it, and while typically topical steroid creams and ointments have a wide margin of safety, without knowing all the ingredients in the cream, I can't say for certain he will be ok. In addition, eating the tube can lead to an obstruction from the plastic, and it does look like he ate a bunch of the tube. To be safe, I would advise taking him in. Bring in the tube with you, and the vet can treated as needed. In my opine, it's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck with him, I hope this helps!

my puppy broke out of his crate today and chewed up an empty tube of anti-fungal cream. should i be concerned?
I'd be concerned in that if Cody ate parts of the tube, it could cause GI obstruction. In addition, the anti-fungal cream could cause some vomiting and diarrhea if there was some left in the tube. I'd monitor him for now, and if you do see any vomiting or diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he continues to have vomiting and diarrhea while withholding food or on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, I would have him seen by a vet. Hopefully though, he didn't eat any of the tube or ingest any remaining cream, and he will be just fine :-)

Depending on the amount that was in the tube, you may see vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, bloody stool, abdominal pain or excessive thirst/urination. The tube itself presents another issue since it can cause obstruction or internal injury. Ideally, Mia should be examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Induction of vomiting may be contraindicated since the tube may cause damage coming up. After a physical exam, the vet can determine the best course of action to retrieve or remove the tube while treating any symptoms.

Rather than hemorrhoid cream, I suggest some triple antibiotic ointment to help it heal. You may have nicked him with the scissors, which is really easy to do, even when you're being very careful. You can use something like the Tucks pads for hemorrhoids to clean it, then apply the antibiotic twice a day. If it doesn't improve significantly in the next day or two, I suggest getting him in to see your vet as he may need additional medication or treatment. If you get him groomed, make sure to ask them to do a sanitary clip, which will trim the hair very short around his anus to help prevent this from happening again in the future Your vet may also offer a similar service in between grooming appointments. If you want to do it at home, get a pair of clippers and use a guard to keep from cutting him.

My puppy chewed on a hydrocortisone 1% cream. The tube seems pretty full but she only weighs like 5lbs should I be very worried ??
No, I would not be concerned. This is a weak steroid medication, and you might see some increased urination and thirst from it, but that may not occur if the tube still feels pretty full. There also may be a possibility of stomach upset, but if she did not ingest a lot, it's not likely. She should be ok.

My husband's dog ate 80g of triamcinolone acetonide cream. Her name is Sammy and she's about 18 weeks.
I recommend that Sammy go to the vet immediately. This is a very large steroid ingestion and potential complications include vomiting, diarrhea, pain, and bleeding stomach ulcers. She likely needs treatment including stomach protectants.

My puppy got alone of the cortisone cream tube and tore a hole in the tube exposing some of the cream. I’m sure she digested some of it (not much). Is there anything I should do or be aware of?
Overall it’s not toxic but it can cause some minor gastrointestinal upset depending on how much she actually ingested. This means she could have some mild vomiting and/or diarrhea. If you notice any of that then she should be examined by your vet.

I recommend to call the manufacturer of the hand cream. They will be the best one to ask if there are concerns with toxicity. If there are ingredients which could be poisonous, your puppy needs to get to the veterinarian right away for treatment. Best of luck.

Hi and thanks for your post on Boop by Petco. The Polysporin contents are not toxic. However, Willis may experience some transient vomiting or diarrhea. Poor Pumkin! It sounds like he may have some sores on that area. First, I would get an Ecollar for him to wear. It will prevent him from licking at the area, and it will also keep him from licking at the antibiotic cream you put on there, as it's not healthy for them to ingest it. You can get an Ecollar from the pet store. It doesn't sound like this sore is something that requires a vet visit right away, so you can monitor it for now. Keep the area dry and clean, and look for signs of redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. If you see any of those signs, I would take him into the vet, as the sore is infected and will require antibiotics to treat. You can gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, but don't use the antibiotic cream on it again unless you can keep him from licking at it. If it looks like the sore isn't healing over the next 72 hours, or it appears to be spreading, then I would take him into the vet.
