My pregnant cat isn't eating much after a fever and vet visit. Normal?

Hello again,a few days i asked about why my pregnant cat isn't eating, I took her to the vet he said that her temperature is high he gave her an antibiotic injection and an anti-inflammatory injection and gave me a sirop to increase her appetite, now she eats but just a little,is it normal that a pregnant cat loss appetite? I'm scared that she or her babies will die of hunger

You can see a cat lose its appetite while pregnant, usually around three to four weeks into the pregnancy. It is good that you took Puffy into a vet, however, as it sounds like she was sick if she had a high fever. I am a little concerned that she still is only eating a little, and I would take her back into the vet for a health check to make sure everything is ok. It's very important for her health and the health of her kittens to eat properly, and since she has been sick, follow up visits with the vet should be done. I would take her into a vet today if possible. Good luck, I hope this helps!

I am worried that Mimi may have a complication with the pregnancy. Pregnant cats (especially later in pregnancy) are usually very hungry. For her not to be hungry indicates that she is really feeling bad. I recommend taking her to get examined by a vet as soon as you can. It doesn't seem like an emergency, but best if you can get her to the vet within the next 24 hours. I hope that helps and Mimi gets better soon.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It depends on how far along Squeaker is. If she is close to her due date, she could have stopped eating because she is ready to give birth. If not, then there may be other medical issues going on. Without an exam it is hard to say. I would offer her kitten food- canned and dry- and continue to monitor her. If she doesn’t eat for longer than 24 hours, I recommend taking her to a vet for an exam. It is not uncommon for young cats to get pregnant and it doesn’t always mean there will be a problem with delivery. Good luck and kisses to Squeaker!

Decreased appetite is normal in the later stages of pregnancy. So no worries there, as long as she is eating portions of her food. Loose stool can also occur, but should return to normal after a few days, and she should still have normal energy level and not hide. Hiding in cats, when they typically are social cats, is usually an indicator that something is wrong. I would see how she does in the next day or two, and if the diarrhea does not resolve, then have her stools checked by your vet. She may have intestinal parasites, or it could be loose due to stress from the pregnancy. I hope that Mia's stools return to normal soon. Best of luck moving forward and take care. : )

I strongly recommend getting your cat seen by your vet as soon as possible. Cats can sometimes get fevers with no known origin and it makes them not want to eat. A cat cannot go more than a couple days without eating before they develop liver damage. Your cat may need fluids and supportive care in order to lower his temperature back to normal and support him until his appetite returns.

96.5 is indeed low, however in order to verify this one would need to know your cat's individual normal temperature and also take the temperature with another thermometer, to make sure that the first one is working properly, At this time I would say she will have her kittens within the next 12-24 hours, especially if she is making/leaking milk. If your cat appears lethargic, or ill, you should take her to a vet for a quick exam just to make sure that she is ok.

The pregnancy is divided into trimesters, and a healthy, well-fed queen will experience steady weight gain throughout the pregnancy. This weight gain appears to function as energy storage to support upcoming lactation. Overfeeding can result in obesity at the end of pregnancy, which increases the risk for difficult or prolonged labor and added stress on the kittens. Conversely, underfeeding during pregnancy can result in embryo loss, abnormal fetal development, spontaneous abortion or stillbirth, small litter size, and low birth-weight kittens who fail to thrive. It is important that the queen not lose weight or condition during this time, so monitor her weight and body condition, increasing food as needed. Cats do not bleed like dogs do when they are in heat, so this bleeding that you have seen is not an indication she was in heat. It's an indication that something is wrong, and she could have a retained placenta or may now have an infection of the uterus called a pyomera. Given that she is not eating, very weak, and has little strength, I would consider this a medical emergency and she has to see a vet now. Without seeing her in person, I can't say the exact treatment she needs but you will have to trust the vet to give the correct one. Leaving this untreated could be fatal. Please take her into a vet now.

Oh my, poor kitty. The vomiting is likely due to very little space in the abdomen and when the kittens move they activate the pressure receptors of the stomach which then thinks it is too full, and then empties itself. You need to feed her good quality kitten food, preferably canned and feed her small amounts over several feeds (I would feed her daily ration split over 4 feeds/day). Once she had the kittens, you can reduce that to three times/day. This should help her gain weight again.
