My senior dog leaks clear fluid post-UTI. Should I rush to the vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 45 lbs

My dog maverick (male) is about 11 years old. He was neutered only 6ish months ago and a little over a month ago i took him to the vet for a bladder infection (was bad) he was put of strong antibiotics for 6 weeks and he recently finished that treatment (couple weeks ago?) Recently i noticed maverick has been leaving an oderless clear spot on my sheets after sleeping the last couple days. He has been drinking more water, not excessive. Should i rush to vet? Or can i wait a couple weeks?

I wouldn't rush him to the vet tonight but I wouldn't wait a couple of weeks either. It is possible that Maverick has another UTI, and it's definitely something that should be checked out. If he appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until Monday morning. If he appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if his urine appears very bloody, then he should be seen by a vet ASAP. Feed him wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure he drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder. Good luck, I hope this helps!

As long as he can urinate and is acting otherwise normally, it is likely not an emergency situation. Consider allowing your veterinarian to collect a sterile urine sample to submit for a culture and sensitivity panel. This may identify the bacteria responsible for Red's infection as well as the most effective antibiotic to use in treatment. Stones in his bladder or kidneys and masses may be ruled out with the ultrasound. He may need to be on long term or pulsed (alternating weeks or month on/off meds) antibiotic therapy.

This sounds like your dog may have a urinary tract infection. You can try to catch some urine tomorrow with a ladle and take the fresh urine (!) to your veterinarian for a urinalysis. Your vet can diagnose a UTI within minutes via the urinalysis. It may be better to get an earlier appointment with the vet (tomorrow) for an exam. as she will need pain medicine and possibly antibiotics from your vet.. It is quite possible that the decreased appetite and energy level is due to a UTI.

I noticed that my dog has been urinating every ten minutes and then I saw blood. The vet isn’t open right now, what can I do? I think it might be a UTI?
Poor pup! It does sound like he may have an infection or other urinary problem. I would recommend taking him to the vet to be seen once they open tomorrow morning - he will likely need a urinalysis to check for infection, and possibly additional testing depending on what is found. If he does have a UTI, he will need prescription antibiotics to treat the problem. In the meantime, there isn't much you can do except take him out frequently and monitor to make sure he isn't developing any other symptoms. There are no over-the-counter meds that will be of any help, so the best thing is to take him to a vet as soon as you are able to.

UTI's can cause your dog pain, that's for sure. If you've ever had one yourself you might know that the burning sensation and pain in the lower abdomen are quite uncomfortable. The pain isn't terrible, for sure, but there's no doubt that Bella isn't feeling well. In addition, in a diabetic dog, UTI's can indicate that she is poorly regulated (i.e. there is routinely glucose in her urine) and having one signals that it's a good idea to check blood glucose as well, to determine if an adjustment might be considered in insulin dosage. Checking a quick urine dipstick can also ease your mind that she is not tipping over into diabetic ketoacidosis as well, which is a very serious condition. It's also worth noting that even though the same antibiotic is prescribed each time, when UTI's occur frequently the bacteria that cause them can become stronger, and more resistant to the normally-used antibiotics - this is why urine culture is so valuable in these cases, in order to make sure that the
