I have a 7 yr. old Shitzu. I was told he had contact dermatitis. I have given him prednisone and quadritop. With no relief. I have tried antibiotic ointment and cortisone ointment. Again no help. He has scratched his ears raw, they bleed and are scabby. I give him oatmeal baths, nothing is helping.

Hello, I am sorry for your concerns about Doodles. It is pretty unusual when a contact dermatitis does not respond to steroids. In my experience, when this happens, either there is an underlying condition present, such as Cushing's Disease, or this is a food allergy. I would encourage you to contact your veterinarian to re-evaluate Doodles or see a veterinary dermatologist. I did a quick search for one based on your zip code, & found Ponemah Veterinary Hospital. They list themselves under veterinary dermatology, but they are about 50 miles from you. The number is 603-673-5300. Hope Doodles gets some relief soon. Take care.
