My cat has a sore spot on his leg. Can I use Neosporin with a bandage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 15 years old | 9 lbs

My cat has a sore spot right behind his right front leg. We have put neosporin on it but changed to a spray to keep him from chewing off his fur. He is afraid of the spray and i wondered if i could put the neosporin on with a self adhesive bandage.

Can you post again with a photo? I would be surprised if this was actually a wound. Are you sure it is not a tumor or an eosinophilic plaque? You would be better off continuing the Neopsorin and putting a cone collar on him to prevent him from licking/chewing. A bandage is not likely to stay on and most cats will pull them off anyway. https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Recovery-Breathable-HAND-Designed/dp/B01JGBP4MW If he goes outdoors you should keep him inside for now. If you use the cone and the Neosporin for 7 days with no improvement then Jinx needs to see your vet. If you would like to post again with a photo we may be able to better help you determine what may be going on. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
