Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 3.6 lbs
Bella was diagnosed with moderate collapsing trachea almost 4 years ago. We have been very blessed and she hasn't needed any medical intervention. I noticed the past week she is coughing a bit. Nothing serious but has one or two very small and brief fits a day. We have torbutrol on hand if cough gets persistent but my question is... is the cough More likely to be present in winter months than summer months due to the cold and dry air or would that not be contributing?

Dry or cold air can certainly contribute to irritating the airways and contributing to a cough. The problem with a collapsing trachea is that once the cough starts, it is more difficult to control. If you think that dry air is contributing, then you can add a humidifier to a room that Bella spends the majority of her time in or take her into the bathroom for 5 minutes after you have showered and the bathroom is humid. I am also attaching a handout on tracheal collapse below for your information. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=1527 Good luck! I hope that was helpful.
