Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! As long as Hazel doesn’t get an upset stomach with sudden food changes it should be fine to use the Hill’s k/d until the Royal Canin is back in stock. I hope this helps!

Yes, Hill's prescription k/d is formulated similarly to give the right balance of nutrients necessary during kidney failure. It's best to transition the food slowly though, because these foods are different enough that an abrupt change can cause an upset with the gastrointestinal system. It's best to slowly transition the new food over a two week period, where you gradually increase the new food, while decreasing the old food. As always, it's best to do this as advised by your veterinarian, because they will know best about Hazel's condition and may have additional advice, or concerns about the switch in foods. I hope that helps and all is well with Hazel.
