My cat hasn't pooped for days after deworming. Should I worry?

My Bengal cross tabby cat recently has been wormed and now she hasn't been for a poo in a couple of days. She is 8 or 9 years old

It is concerning that Tigger hasn't gone poop in a couple of days. It could be that she had a large amount of worms that have now died and are causing obstipation (inability to poop). She could have a foreign body or she could be dehydrated causing the obstipation. I would have her seen by a vet immediately. She may need a laxative or enema to help her poop. Please do not give her any human laxatives, they contain ingredients that cause electrolyte abnormalities in cats. The vet can administer a safe one. Good luck, I hope this helps!

If Callie hasn't passed stool in several days I'd be worried about problems such as severe constipation, impaction, foreign bodies, or megacolon preventing her from passing stool. It is a good idea to bring her into your vet to have her examined. They'll likely recommend an X-ray to see how much stool is in her body and to look for anything that may be pressing on the GI tract or stuck in it preventing her from passing stool. They can also help remove any impacted stool and provide medications such as lactulose that can help soften it until she returns to normal.

Is it normal for a cat not to poop a few days after a successful enema?
Yes and no. If Saber was anesthetized and had a manual clean out where lots of poop was removed, it can be normal not to see them poop for 1-2 days afterwards. If the cat had an enema and only a normal amount of poop was passed, I would expect the cat should have regular bowel movements each day. It's certainly not normal if it's been longer that 48 hours, and Saber still haven't pooped. Unfortunately, constipation can be a chronic problem in cats, and I recommend having Saber seen by a vet again for his constipation if he hasn't passed feces in more than 48 hours.

hello, i have a 4 week old kitten and she hasnt pooped yet. should i be worried?
I am not sure how many days she has gone without having a bowel movement. But if she is attempting to poop and straining, then she should see a vet immediately for an enema to help her go and then treatment for long term care. However, if she is not straining and it has been less than 3-4 days since she has pooped, give her time to adjust to whatever new things may be going on around her. Offer her food (Canned food is best @ this age or kitten formula if she has not transitioned yet) like normal and monitor her the next few days to see if she finally goes. Cats are notorious for holding their bowels when they are recently adopted, move, or there's a new introduction to the home. And finally, if you are seeing any other symptoms such as vomiting, decreased appetite, or straining, then Olly should be seen by your vet right away. You can try stimulating her to go as well by using a warm wet cloth. I hope that your furry friend Olly is able to have a bowel movement soon! Best wish

How long can a cat go without pooping? It's been 24 hours which is unusual for my cat but I don't want to rush her to the vet if I'm being paranoid.
A cat can go up to 48 hours without pooping, meaning anything past 48 hrs is a cause for concern, especially if you see your pet straining to defecate and nothing coming out. Ideally every pet should have a bowel movement daily, however there can be some slight variations here depending on the GI transit time and diet. I would monitor for signs of straining and also vomiting, lethargy or lack of appetite which means that kitty should be seen for constipation/obstipation. There are also medications and supplements available through your vet (i.e. Laxatone or Lactulose) that can help keep the GI track moving along if this becomes a chronic issue. Also fiber supplementation can be discussed with your vet.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Butter. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian now. The longer she goes without defecating, the more serious it can become. She may need fluids under her skin to provide her with more hydration. If the problem is severe enough, then an enema will be necessary. I hope this information helps!

My cat has been irritable and has been trying to poop and cant and i noticed a worm possibly coming out of his anus
I am sorry to hear about your cat. You should check to be sure your cat has been urinating today. It is common for owners to think their cats are trying to poop when they actually are trying to urinate (going to litterbox and straining with nothing coming out). These cats can initially be crabby/painful/can vocalize, and often react painfully if you press on their belly. As the condition progresses they can become lethargic/vomit/stop eating. The inability to urinate is seen in young male cats and is a medical emergency, so if you aren't sure your kitty is urinating I would recommend a trip to the emergency vet. If you are positive he is peeing, then a trip to your regular vet tomorrow would be recommended. He may need an enema or prescription laxative and fluids to help hydrate him and aid in stool passing. They can also check and treat for intestinal parasites.

Poor Dakota! It does sounds likes she's constipated, which can be caused by anal sac impaction, intestinal parasites, a foreign body, too little fiber in the diet, lack of exercise, or even tumors in the GI tract. Given that she hasn't poked in two days and is losing weight, along with being lethargic, I would have her seen by a vet right away. The vet can give her a laxative or enema to help her poop, and can diagnose the cause of her constipation. Please take her into a vet now.

Hi, and thanks for your question. Mild constipation that lasts no more than two days can usually be resolved at home with increased fiber and hydration. Canned pumpkin (not pie filling, just the straight-up pumpkin) or liquid paraffin can be used, and should work straight away in the following 8 hours from administration. DO NOT TRY to give an enema as it could be dangerous and cause electrolyte imbalances and colon perforation. If constipation lasts more than 24 hours from administration of those or 48 hours in general, a check up at your local vet is required. My female cat had recently gotten spayed 3 days ago. She’s currently on Onsior pain meds & she hasn’t pooped since before surgery. She’s urinated and has been eating and drinking fine. Should I keep waiting?
It can take 2-5 days for a cat to poop post surgery. It’s because their gut goes through a bout of ileus (slow moving intestines). As long as she is eating well and everything else is ok, she will likely go within the next few days. You can offer her canned food instead of dry to help here as well as 1 tsp of canned pumpkin (if tolerated). I would recommend making sure she is hydrated and if she seems dehydrated at all, it’s best to have your vet give her some fluids to help stimulate her gut. I gave my dog his first deworming dose last night, and he has not pooped at all today, which is not normal for him. Should I be worried?
I would not be concerned about it just yet. This is not atypical for the bowels to be a little irregular after deworming. Just monitor your pet for the next 24 hrs for any straining (tyring to poop but can't) or diarrhea. If that occurs then it is best to get Graham Cracker evaluated by your vet for further care. But for now it is a bit premature to make that determination that your pet needs help.
