My dog ate Rolaids. What should I do if he's not vomiting yet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Greyhound | Male | neutered | 60 lbs

I caught My greyhound ate a tootsie pop roll and a Rolaids extra strength chew. Since he ate the Roland’s chew I shot a one fourth of a teaspoon of salt mixed into a half a cup of warm water down his throat with a syringe to induce vomiting but nothing happened so far. I’m worried. His behavior is not different, he is more cuddly than usual but that’s it. No vomit, no diarrhea and it happened an hour ago what can I do?

Hello, the calcium content in that chew should be well tolerated by Thunder. The magnesium content may cause GI signs such as constipation, loose stools, or even diarrhea. If you are near a veterinarian, you may have them induce vomiting and measure his calcium and magnesium levels with bloodwork. Alternatively, you can monitor at home for any evidence of increased drinking, increased urinations, loose stools, or diarrhea and contact your veterinarian immediately if you note any. Hope this helps and best of luck.
