Is it safe to give my puppy Imodium for diarrhea before a vet visit?

6 pound , 12 week old cockapoo puppy has diarrhea. How much Imodium can I give him if any until the vet sees him?

It's actually not good to give Imodium for diarrhea unless advised by a veterinarian. Diarrhea is the body's way of getting rid of toxins, or bacteria/viruses/parasites that are causing harm. All Imodium does is prevent diarrhea, but does nothing to treat the cause of the diarrhea. I would not recommend giving Imodium unless Cooper was suffering from relentless diarrhea.     Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear about radar's troubles! However I think he should be ok as that is in the dose range I am familiar with. Imodium can safely be tried only if a bacterial and parasitic infection has been ruled out or treated for simultaneously. It is possible they are all having an adverse reaction to the dewormer you used. In which case getting them with an antibiotic and probiotic would benefit them more than just the Imodium. I would consider taking 1 puppy out of the litter to the vet to get them tested for any remaining intestinal parasites, and then the recommended treatment above should be considered. In the meantime I would recommend feeding them all a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to help settle their stomachs. Also over the counter probiotic Culturelle can be started to see if this makes a difference with their stools. Best wishes Witt your pups and I hope you get their loose stool resolved soon. Yes it is safe but rarely effective and used. As a first approach for diarrhoea, I would recommend to I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Can I give my puppy imodium or kaopexyaye for diarrhea?
Either can be used in dogs, however you should confirm a dose with your veterinarian based on Wolverine's weight. In the meantime, you can try withholding food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon every hour and gradually increase the amount of food. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to his regular diet. If the diarrhea does not resolve or if Wolverine develops vomiting, lethargy or loss of appetite, see your vet for an exam. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth.

I have a miniature schnauzer, about 20 lbs, he has had the diarrhea for 2 days, what can I give him to make it stop. I tried rice yesterday, but not luck, today he had nothing and its all water. Can I give him Imodium?
Imodium would be just a symptomatic treatment, which would not be of great help in case of an infective gastroenteritis. In this case, considering the persistency of the diarrhoea despite the dietary change, I would recommend a check up at your local veterinarian as antibiotics and probiotics may be needed.

Is it ok to give my Yorkshire Terrier loperamide 1mg capsules to help with diarrhoea.
I don't recommend it unless we know what is causing the diarrhea. I would recommend that you discuss it with your vet first. Some types of diarrhea serve a purpose of clearing the GI tract of harmful bacteria or toxins. Loperamide also has the effect of causing significant constipation if it is used in the wrong case.

My dog has water brown diarrhea with some blood in it , when he goes it is not uncontrolled diarrhea..vet gave sulfa antibiotics no lab work back yet ...can I give him ammonium...and appetite is jorrible..
I'm thinking that you're asking about Immodium - I don't recommend this medication for dogs. In my experience it doesn't necessarily help with diarrhea and it can cause constipation. If the diarrhea isn't uncontrolled I'd just continue the antibiotics prescribed by your vet and wait for lab results. You might want to try feeding bland diet like boiled chicken breast and white rice if Buddy doesn't have any food sensitivities.

Hello, sorry to hear about Andie. Loperamide is used to treat diarrhea. This should be prescribed by your veterinarian and used as directed by them. I would avoid loperamide hydrochloride at this point especially if she is vomiting. withhold food for 12 hours then offer Sadie boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If she continues vomiting or is not eating, take her to the vet to get treatment.
