My dog is disoriented after neutering. Is Benadryl safe for sleep?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 10 months old | 84 lbs

My pet was neutered earlier today. He received a rimadyl injection for pain. He still seems disoriented and whiny. Is it safe to give him a benadryl tohelp him sleep?

It's common for them to still be somewhat disoriented from the anesthesia the evening of the surgery. I do not recommend giving the Benadryl, because it may be dangerous in his case and likely won't be helpful. He will eventually sleep and start to act more normally this evening. If he is not acting mostly normal by the same time tomorrow, then I would recommend calling your vet. I hope that helps and all is well with Liam.
