Why is my cat vomiting diarrhea-like liquid for 2 days but acting normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 10 lbs

My cat has been vomitting multiple times a day for the last 2 days. The vomit looks like diaherrea. It is not regurgitated food. She is not acting any different though

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would recommend switching to a different food such as a hydrolyzed protein diet and feed this for the next 4 weeks to see if this makes a difference. I would also add in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online or at your local pet store. If the vomiting persists or worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

Poor Gonzo! I would agree that vomiting every 12 hours for two weeks is very concerning, and some diagnostic testing such as blood work, x-rays, and/or an abdominal ultrasound is definitely indicated. If your veterinarian does not want to pursue any diagnostic testing to find the problem, I would get a second opinion from another vet in your area. This is not normal - the sooner you can find out what's wrong, the sooner he can get started on appropriate treatment for the problem.

Thank you for your post! Vomiting once an hour is definitely excessive and abnormal. My concern is that Jasmine may have eaten something and it is either partially or fully obstructing her somewhere in her GI tract. Another concern of mine is that she may have something systemic going on. I would schedule an aappointment with your vet to have bloodwork and xrays performed to rule out some possible causes. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions you may have

It's good that you've already made an appointment as she should be checked out. I would continue to monitor and if she can't keep anything at all down for more than 24 hours, stops eating or drinking, or begins to show other signs of illness such as lethargy, pain, refusal to eat, etc, seeking emergency care sooner is best.
