My cat's eye is red, watery, squinting, and has discharge. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 6 months old

My cat's right eye has been having problems for a while now but lately it's been becoming worse. His sclera is red, and he's been having a lot of discharge. He's also been producing a lot of tears and squinting. He doesn't seem to be in pain but I'm getting really worried. We don't have the money to go to a vet so I'm hoping someone here can advise me on what to do

That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
