Pet's info: Dog | Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier | Male | neutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 41 lbs
We had a hard freeze overnight and let our dog out in the backyard this morning to go to the bathroom. When he came back in, we noticed his underside was, what appeared to be skinned pretty badly. We assume this to be from him running around and sliding on the ice as we know he was running about. Anyways, are there any recommendations to help heal this area and to limit him from itching it? So far we just cleaned the area. It doesn’t seem to bother him too bad, but it does look painful to me!

There's really not much more that can be done for this other than keeping it clean. It would be helpful if some creams could be applied, but they will just get licked off. I know it looks painful, but it's actually quite minor and should heal well within the next two weeks. For now, you can flush the area with clean water or saline solution for at-least a minute twice a day. This will help keep it from getting infected. Avoid putting any antiseptics or soap on the area as these can actually make the wound worse. I hope that helps and Oliver gets better soon.
