My puppy has a lump on his muzzle. Is it urgent or can it wait?

Hi, I found this lump on my puppy’s muzzle. We have another dog and I’ve never seen anything like this before. Both dogs are booked in for a check up and immunisations a week tomorrow so I was just wondering if it can wait until then or if it needs to be seen sooner. Thank you

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like it could be a small abscess like lesion or a focal infection. Either way, this is likely to resolve with local treatment if the infection is confirmed. I think it would be ok to wait until next week as long as it starts resolving and healing on its own as sometimes these do resolve again if that is what it is. If this continues to worsen or progresses or it is not healing, it would be indicated to have him seen sooner. Good luck and best wishes!

    Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be a benign or malignant growth. This could even be an infection. This cannot be completely assessed just by looking at pictures and usually requires sampling such as fine needle aspiration to determine its origin. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. If he is otherwise doing well, it should be fine to wait until Monday. Good luck and have a good day!

My 11 month old puppy was at daycare about 6 weeks ago and she came back with a bald spot on her nose. Now a hard nodule has formed on that spot. It doesn't seem to bother her and she's acting the same. Should I take her to the vet?
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. I would not suspect this to be a cancerous mass. This could be a cyst from an impacted hair follicle from when she was rubbing her nose in daycare. I would monitor this for the next 2-3 weeks and if it does not resolve, I would have a veterinarian examine it so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Certainly if it worsens during the next 2-3 weeks I would have this seen sooner. I hope this helps! Hi, so I'm really concerned with my brothers dog, about a week ago he had a very sore looking spot next to his nose, and now its grown quite a bit
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. I just found this attached image on my and would like to know what it could be and what to do in the meantime since Vet won't open till Monday
Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. This appears to be a skin mass. As long as it isn't bothering Chinook, it's ok to wait until Monday to get this area tested through your vet. Best case scenario is that this is a benign tumor that isn't of concern for your pet. Best wishes and take care.

Hi, my EBT has developed what looks and smells like an ear infection. This afternoon a large lump has appeared on his face, just below and in front of his ear. I’m guessing it’s an infection, would he be ok to wait till my vet opens at 8.30 tomorrow?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This lump you describe could potentially be something like an abscess for example. However, other things are possible. I do think though that this can wait until tomorrow morning unless his demeanor or appetite worsened. Ear infections are fairly common. The good news is that these usually respond readily to therapy when treated appropriately. I recommend that you have Buddy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If an abscess was noted, further local therapy with drainage and antibiotics would be recommended. At the same time the ear infection could be started on treatment. Good luck and best wishes!

HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Thanks for the pictures! A lot of skin masses can look the same. Possible causes are trauma, an infection, or a mass. Masses can be benign or malignant. Based on Tua's young age, I would assume if it was a mass it would be benign. A common benign pink, hairless growth in dogs is a histiocytoma. They usually spontaneously regress with in 1-3 months. Another possibility is a mast cell tumor which is a cancerous skin growth. Since is continuing to grow and changing I recommend you have your Vet take a look. They can discuss options for diagnosis. With it being on his nose it will be hard to aspirate it without him sedated. I hope this helps and I wish you and Tua the best!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Given that this has only been present for one day and has increased in size rapidly and has some discharge associated with it, this may be an abscess. Otherwise it could be a benign or malignant growth. I recommend you have Ronnie evaluated by your veterinarian for a test called fine needle aspirate which is an easy, quick and pain-free procedure which in the majority of cases will help reach a diagnosis to identify what the best course of action is based on the findings. In some cases, a biopsy is needed for a diagnosis. If it is an abscess, drainage and antibiotic therapy will be recommended. If it turns out to be a tumor, then treatment will be recommended according to the tumor type and other findings. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed that it is something benign.

My dog is a blue nose pit bull and he has had this growth for a couple of weeks and it has only gotten bigger but is there anychance you can give me some advice on what it might be.
Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Is that supposed to be the same growth in both photos? The growth if the first photo looks suspicious for a malignant tumor. The tissue around the mass is swollen and the mass itself is raised and ulcerated; both can be signs of a malignancy. I cannot tell you for sure though just by looking at a photo. The second photo looks like a benign wart. In general, any new lumps/bumps should be examined by your vet. The first photo looks worrisome and I think you should have it checked in the next few days.

My puppy just turned 4 months. A few weeks ago I noticed a small bump on his snout, it has continued to grow. It doesn't seem painful, and it's firm. I wanted to know if I should take him to an animal hospital or just make an appt with my vet? Pic #1
If the area has continued to grow, I would definitely recommend having the area assessed by your veterinarian. If it is bothersome or itchy (by the looks of it, I would assume that it is since it appears to be inflamed), I would advise that you get Pepper a cone to wear in the mean time in order to prevent her from digging and scratching at the lesion. In terms of treatment, your vet will likely want to shave around the affected lesion, clean it, and possible obtain some impression smears and cytology to assess the cause. Antibiotics (topical and/or systemic) and anti-inflammatory medication may be useful depending on the findings. Hope this helps!
