My dog got flea treatment & grooming, but I found a tick. Is it dead?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 26 days old | 7 lbs

I had my dog groomed, shampooed today. He was also treated for fleas and ticks. When I picked him up he was all clean and the groomer applied a 30day flea/tick treatment. Once I got home I noticed a tick under the neck. Would it be dead or still alive? I’m not sure because this is my first dog and I adopted him today so this is all new to me.

It depends on what flea tick product was utilized. Some products kill ticks immediately while others do not. I would find out what exact product was utilized by your groomer so that you can have more information. In the meantime, you can obtain a product like the tick twister / tick tornado to safely remove the tick from Ace's body in one piece. Hope this makes sense.
