My pet has sneezing, picky eating, and skin sores. Is it allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years old | 8.5 lbs

Maisey has been sneezing a lot lately. Seems to happen when she's grooming. But she has also been picky about her food. She usually gobbles up her dried food, now it seems it has to be in a new bowl every time. That may be coincidental, she could be getting tired of the same food for months. She occasionally has sores too which might ne allergies...I know, a lot going on. I just wonder if I need to take her to the vet or not.

Hi there. Yes, it sounds like Maisey has allergies. Pets can have environmental allergies, or food allergies. Some common things they can be allergies to include trees, grasses, pollens, weeds, etc. These allergies usually present seasonally. Food allergies are possible too, usually to the protein in the food. Allergies can lead to skin infections, ear infections, red skin, itching, and licking. If you note sores, she may need antibiotics. I do recommend an exam. Until then, sometimes a good oatmeal bath can help. Good luck.
