What causes a healthy dog's black fur to turn white in spots?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 years and 5 months old | 30 lbs

Dogs hair on head is growing in white in spots all over her head. It started with 1 spot in center top & got bigger now is getting alot all over her head & ears. It is actual hair that was black,no sores etc. She is half beagle/jack Russell,healthy 6yrs.

As long as the skin below is normal appearing (looks like it from the pictures, but can't be 100%), this would be a condition known as leukotrichia. The cause of this is a bit of a mystery, but the good news is that it is not harmful. I would want to check that the skin appears normal before saying for sure though. For this you'd have to have a vet examine her. I hope that helps and all is well with Maxi.
