Dog limping, leg popping, no diagnosis. Should I see a specialist?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Wirehaired Pointer | Female | unspayed | 72 lbs

Austa, a 6 1/2 drahthaar, is favoring her RR leg for 4 months. Not running, folding leg under when she sits.now her popping when she walks. Xrays taken (not while under anesthesia) vet could not find any definitive cause. Taken to 2 vets, prescribed jo9int supplements. What is my next step? Could take to K State vet complex if suggested. Help.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Austa! What a beautiful girl! The most common injury in the hind leg is an ACL tear. X-rays can look normal since it is a ligament. If 2 Vets haven't diagnosed the issue then I would see a specialist. The Vet school is a fine option as are specialty Veterinary Centers that have an orthopedic surgeon. I hope this helps!
