My cat has been vomiting for 3 days but acts fine. What should I do?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 4 months old | 9 lbs

Cat has been vomiting 3 days, food and stomach bile. Tried limiting/changing food still vomit. Almost always wants more food after vomit so has appetite. He is indoor/outdoor so hard to monitor bowel but locked him in last 6 hours and vomit but no bowel. He acts pretty normal, purring, affectionate, no pain noticable to his stomach by touch. Don't know about fever or dehydration? Suggestions please?

Poor Amorris! I am concerned that he has been vomiting for three days, that's a long time for a cat to vomit and it sounds like he's not keeping any food down. This because serious at this point in time because when a cat doesn't eat for more than 72 hours, they develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. Even though you think he is acting otherwise normal, he has to see a vet immediately. He could have a severe GI illness, foreign body, or pancreatitis causing his symptoms. He likely is dehydrated from the vomiting, and may need IV fluids as well as a shot to stop the vomiting. The best thing to do for Amorris is to take him into a vet right away. I would have Mayor seen by a vet immediately. It's quite serious that he hasn't been able to keep down food for the past two days. When a cat hasn't eaten or kept down food for at least three days, they can develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. Mayor could have a severe Gi illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a foreign body. He needs to see a vet now to diagnose what is causing him to vomit after eating and to prevent him from developing a fatty liver.

Vomit is a symptoms usually referred to a problem located in the gastrointestinal system. It can be secondary to a dietary indiscretion. It could be caused by a stomach inflammation (gastritis) or if he is having soft feaces as well can be an upset of the whole gastrointestinal system. Pancreatitis might be another option and cannot be ruled out at this stage. Vomit can also be a secondary to systemic diseases (i.e. renal failure). If it's already 3 days and not improving I recommend a consultation with your veterinarian asap for a full health check. Bobo is not drinking therefore he might be dehydrated and possibly need hospitalization and fluidotherapy to restore the fluid losses. I hate to hear Lulu is not feeling well. Any pet vomiting beyond 24 hours should be examined by the veterinarian. Just like humans, there are many many causes of vomiting and some of the causes can be very serious. I recommend to have Lulu examined today. This is very concerning. Your cat may be suffering from pancreatitis, hyperthyroidism or severe gastritis or an intestinal blockage, By now this is an emergency and you will need to take your cat to a vet right away. Do not wait until the weekend or after , as your cat may even get sicker considering no food is being held. This can cause hyerlipidemia in addition to her illness and is life threatening. My Cat has not eaten anything in Two days. He is usually a very hungry cat. His Stools are non-existent.
It sounds like poor Samba isn't feeling well, and he has to see a vet immediately. When a cat doesn't eat going on 72 hours, they develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. This absolutely needs to be avoided, which is why he has to see a vet right away. Anorexia is a very general sign of illness, and it could be caused by many things such as dental problems, GI obstruction, systemic illness, kidney disease, heart disease, liver disease, infection, injury, or cancer for example. The vet can diagnose what is causing the anorexia and can treat him for it. Please take him into a vet now. I hope this helps, good luck!

Moe became ill 2 days ago. First he vomited a grayish hairball log, he's a black cat, then he started to vomit liquid only, not eating moving slowly very lethargic..my vet is closed 9/7/20 I'm very worried..
Poor Moe! From what you're describing here, I'm afraid he sounds quite sick. Vomiting, not eating, and acting lethargic are always very concerning symptoms, especially since he's been sick for 2-3 days now and seems to be getting worse. Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of illness, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine him and run some tests. I do think that this sounds like a serious, potentially life-threatening problem that shouldn't wait until tomorrow, so I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic today to be seen. If you're not sure where to go, try calling your regular vet's office - their voicemail message should have contact information for your nearest ER or an on-call doctor for emergencies.

Three days without eating in a cat can be an indication of a significant disease process. Combining with this with the recent vomiting, some of the things that come to mind include gastritis, gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, immune-mediated conditions, dietary indiscretion, certain cancers of the GI tract, and neurologic disorders which can cause dizziness / nausea. If the anorexia persists for another 12-24 hours, I would definitely contact a veterinarian to be seen. When a cat stops eating for more than 4-5 days, it can can effect the liver and result in the need for hospitalization. Hope Mano is feeling better soon.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Mau! With cats there isn't much at home care that can be done for excessive vomiting. Due cat's extreme sensitivity to human medications there is nothing safe to give him. I would try fasting him for 12-24 hours, add in a hairball medication ( https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=19963 ). Then I would restart feeding him as you have been, small frequent meals. Ideally he needs to see a Vet Monday due to the length of vomiting he is having. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, foreign body, dietary indiscretion, toxin ingestion, IBD, food allergies, pancreatitis. I hope this helps and I wish Mau the best!

She has to have veterinary care now, there is nothing you can do for her at home. Please take her into a vet immediately.

I have a small cat that is vomiting from yesterday and does not eat anything, but what should I do for it?
Poor Olivia! Vomiting and not eating for more than 24 hours definitely warrants a vet visit. I'm afraid there's really not much you can do at home if she can't keep anything down. I would recommend taking her to the vet today for an exam. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine the cause of the vomiting (which could be anything from a relatively minor upset stomach, to something serious like an intestinal obstruction, liver or kidney disease, etc.), and will likely give her an injection to help stop the vomiting as well as some fluids to help with dehydration. Further treatment will depend on the underlying cause - your veterinarian should be able to advise you based on her exam and lab results.
