My cat has recurring red, weepy eyes. Should I see a specialist?

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

reoccurring eye redness and tearing. then, 12/24/17 cat fight, left,3rd eyelid covering eye, very weepy. 12/29 vet eval, eyelid not an issue. antibiotic inject. 1/2/18 reeval under anesthesia- no injury noted. probable virus. 1/14/18- left , 3rd eyelid swollen and covering eye. eye weepy. do we keep monitoring or seek more help

I would seek more help for Amma. The eye is such a delicate and important structure, and leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. It may be time to seek the opinion of a veterinary ophthalmologist to diagnose what is causing her eye problems so she can be treated. I would speak to your vet to see if there is one in your area that you can make an appointment. At the very least, take her back into your vet this week. I hope this helps!

I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. There may be a serious problem going on with the eye such as trauma (corneal ulcer, penetrating injury, etc.) and this requires immediate care. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. My cat Phoebe (about 14 years old) often has issues with her eye becoming red and watery but it goes away in a day or two. However, two days ago she had it again, but afterwards I noticed a small sore above her eye. Today there is a pink area as well
The swelling is unusual and I would be concerned there is some sort of infection of tumor underneath. I don't recommend to treat this at home and instead recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. That's the only way to accurately access this lesion and determine if anything needs to be done about it. You do need to make sure she is not rubbing at the area and she may need to wear an elizabethan collar. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My cats left eye is red and seems to be causing her a bit of discomfort. I have tried to bathe her eye with sterile water but it is not clearing up. Can you please advise if I should take her to the vet or can I treat her with something else?
Hi, and thanks for your question. A picture would be essential in this case to give you a specific answer. Generally speaking, that is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.

My 14 year old cat has one watery eye. There is redness in the tissue under the eyelids and possibly a bit of swelling. This has been going on for 3 days and my vet can't get me in for another 5 days. I'm wondering if I should go to the emergency vet
I always lean toward being more careful with eye conditions. Even though you could likely wait 5 days, I would probably go to the emergency vet if it was my cat. And it is likely uncomfortable for Roxie, so I would like to get it treated. Eye conditions can become very severe very quickly, so I would have it evaluated sooner rather than later. How are her teeth? Sometimes animals can have eye discharge when they have a toothroot abscess. I would talk to your veterinarian about this. If her teeth look good I would consider going to an ophthalmologist. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Hi. This is a pretty severe lesion. I would recommend going straight to opthomologist. It is hard to say the cause for sure based on this photo unfortunately. It could be an injury, an infection, a rupture, or many other possibilities. Great question. It does look like a specialist should get involved right away.

Nick has had eye problems since i picked him up out of a parking lot. We've had one eye removed and he recovered from that just fine. I want to know why his "good eye" is still weeping. It's been on going for a year now. What do I do, please help me.

There is blood covering my cats pupil we have been to the vet and they prescribed antibiotics and drops for a week and they said the most likely cause was uveitis we visited the vets again and they referred us to an ophthalmologist I just want a head
I'm sorry but it is very difficult to assess eye problems with regular photos. The use of an ophthalmoscope, slit lamp, etc to look into the eye is best. It sounds like that has been done and an ophthalmologist exam would be best. All I think I see in this photo is a dark area above the pupil that would worry me about iris melanoma but again, I can't really tell much from a photo. There are too many possibilities as to what could be going on. An ophthalmologist will be able to help better as this is their area of expertise. My cat that's 12 weeks, and has gotten a puffy eye and sometimes it starts watering. It's also a bit red. Could it be pink eye possibly? He can see fine out of and has plenty of energy. Should I see a vet right away, or wait a few days.
Young kittens often get conjunctivitis. It's not pink eye (meaning it's not contagious to you), but it may require medication from your veterinarian for clinical signs to resolve. It does not sound like an emergency, but I would schedule an appointment with your veterinarian within the next several days if clinical signs have not resolved or certainly if they worsen.
