Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 4.5 lbs
I have a 2 year old cat with FeLV. He fell ill with a bad URI, and stopped eating due to not breathing properly. We were able to get him well, he is now eating often, but not sustaining weight. Actually lost a few ounces. How much weight can he lose before it effects is living?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Luigi Pierre! I am sorry that Luigi has FeLV. As you know this virus predisposes the cat to leukemia's, cancers and other illnesses by immunosuppression. He may need more time to put the weight back on that he lost when he had the URI. There is not magic weight loss number but I would suspect he will be quite debilitated if he lost 25% or more of this body weight. If he lost a pound despite a good appetite I would be very concerned about underlying intestinal disease and would recommend full blood work. I hope this helps and I wish Luigi the very best!
