My golden doodle puppy had a peace lily in his mouth. Is it toxic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | unneutered | 13 lbs

I’m not sure if my question went through. My 11 week old golden doodle had a peace lily leaf in his mouth. I tore it out. He didn’t swallow any. Should I be worried?

Some types of lillies can be very toxic to cats and some lillies are mildly toxic to dogs and cats. Peace lillies are considered toxic plants, but it is because they have crystals of calcium oxalate that can irritate the mouth and GI tract. So, it is possible that Gus could have drooling or irritation of his mouth. I have attached links below to the ASPCA website and a handout on toxic plants. https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants/peace-lily https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=191 If Gus is going to have any problems, I would expect them to start quickly. If that occurs, I would recommend contacting the ASPCA Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 or your veterinarian for recommendations for treatment. Good luck! I hope that answered your question and that Gus will be fine. Thanks for using PetCoach.
