Cat walked on floor with toilet cleaner residue. Is she safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 years and 6 months old | 7 lbs

I mopped my floor in the bathroom and around the bathroom this morning, after my cousin cleaned the toilet with toilet bowl cleaner. She said she didn't get any on her slippers but she might've gotten some on the floor lastnight hence why I mopped the area this morning before my cat was out. My question would be, if she walked around where I mopped, with the same slippers on that she used last night. Should I remop where she walked around just to be safe? My cat already ran where she walked...

Thank you for reaching out about Mirz. I do not think you have any reason to be very concerned about the slippers and a possible chemical on them. It sounds like you have taken the appropriate precautions and it should be just fine. Symptoms of cleaner ingestion may include: excessive drooling, vomiting, and/or a decrease in appetite. If any of this occurs for Mirz, please seek veterinary care. But once again, I do not think you have much to be concerned about after all you have done.
