My cat's leg skin allergy looks infected. Does she need a vet?

Even though the symptoms are resolving I would take her to the vet. That is a pretty significant reaction from what I can tell from the photo. Looks like possibly a contact allergy and often times the cat will need an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic injection to get this to clear up. I would certainly consider this a reason to take her in to your vet. The skin appears to be having an allergic reaction to something. She also could potentially have a mite infestation or even ringworm (lower on the list of possibilities). So I would schedule an appt soon to get her skin tested through your vet to determine what the underlying problem is so that she receives proper treatment, especially since most cats with skin issues need some kind of prescription medication to resolve the issue. It sounds like she had a dermatitis and possibly and infection of her skin. She should be examined by a vet to treat. She may need an antibiotic, antihistamine, and/ or a corticosteroid to treat. You could try an OTC product like Vetericyn spray until she sees a vet and see if that helps.

I think it looks to be healing OK. You can continue treating it as you have been. It would be best if you could get her to a vet as she probably needs oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to get this to clear up and minimize the swelling.

This looks very inflamed indeed, probably infected as well. i would actually suspect a condition called Eosinophylic Granuloma that is quite common in cats and can look like this, if this is the case Boston will need steroid treatment for a few weeks and probably a course of antibiotic as well. i strongly advise that you take him to the vet ASAP in order to get treatment.

It looks pretty bad, I imagine it's very sore. It could be duecto a number of things, it could be an infection, it could be a bad allergic reaction or cats get an immune condition called eosinophillic granuloma complex, that can present similar to this. I would take Shorty to the vet as this will need treated before it gets worse.

I am not sure what is the cause of this skin lesion but it looks very infected, you need to take her to the vet today in order to get it checked, she will need a course of antibiotics for that. because of her age it might be a good idea to have a blood test done just to make sure there isn't an internal disease in the background as well.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Without seeing Boo-Boo it’s hard to say for sure. If the areas are increasing in size and look infected (as you described) then she will likely need antibiotics. Sometimes this is oral but sometimes we can use injections. Also, this may be from an allergic reaction. If so, she may need antihistamines or steroids. This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. Intense itch is possibly causing her to bite and lick excessively legs area. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics).
