My 18-month-old cat had shots. Are yearly vaccines or rabies needed?

My cat is now 18 months old and had all her shots last year around Christmas, what is needed now? Do they need a rabid shot every year?

Great question! If Cali only had her kitten vaccines (FVRCP - feline distemper combo) and rabies , then yes she will need a booster of her vaccines including rabies. After that, you will need to discuss with the vet when her next vaccines are due. Some brands of vaccines, including rabies, only need to be given once every three years, while others are required yearly. You can discuss with your vet her vaccine schedule. I would make an appointment for her next week. Good luck, I hope this helps!

She should have a 4-way vaccine now (FCRP, or something similar) along with a feline leukemia vaccine - these will both need to be boostered in 3-4 weeks, then again in one year. She does also need a rabies vaccine - this is a single vaccine that does not need to be boostered, so it will also be good for a year.

Should vaccinations such as the FVRCP vaccine and Rabies be given to indoor cats continuously each year or could there be a gap? Also I was told in a previous response that Sweetie "may need 2 sets of the FVRCP vaccine (if she is an adult cat)" does
FVRCP is given every year. but if your cat is strictly an indoor cat without any contact with the outside it's your choice if you want to have her vaccinated or not as the chances of catching any of the disease covered by the vaccination are very slim. same thing goes with Rabies vaccination of course. if you chose to have the vaccination done, she will need two injection the first year and after that only one injection each year.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Rabies is required by law regardless of age because humans die from Rabies. The FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia) should be given every 3 years. Have a good night!

Hello! I have two cats. They have never been vaccinated. What do I need to get them? Both are two.
Excellent question. The main vaccination(s) they need are: 1) FVRCP- a combo upper respiratory vaccine. 2) And if they go outdoors they should get the FeLV (leukemia) vaccination, which is an infection that is spread through drinking water. 3) Then of course the Rabies vaccine, if it is required in your state. The FVRCP and Rabies vaccine can be given once a year for the first year, then once every 3 years. The FeLV vaccine is given yearly.

My cat is an adult cat. Would 4-in-1 shot and rabies shot every 3 years suffice? I heard from another source that they must be done annually, but if it's unnecessary then maybe it's better to do it every 3 years?
This sort of question largely depends on your geographic location and the exact vaccine type that is being administered. In the USA, every state has the right to say how long a vaccine is licensed for and how long it offers protection. In my state of Pennsylvania, we have two different Rabies vaccines that we use for instance. One of them is good for one year and the other is good for three years. We use the one year one more because we believe it is safe and offers better protection. Ultimately, I would speak to one or two different vets to get their opinion on the matter. Lastly, if your kitty spends any time outdoors, I would highly recommend the feline leukemia vaccine as well as this is a common condition spread among outdoor cats. Hope this helps.

How often should my cat get The FELINE DISTEMPER COMBO and RABIES shots? She is mostly an INSIDE cat, but she goes outside for 5 minutes everyday, does she need the LEUKEMIA shot?
Hi there, if Gabriella is an adult cat, she world need the rabies and fvrcp combo given once, then boostered after 12mths. That second dose would likely be good for 3yrs. If she is a kitten, we recommend boosting the fvrcp every 2-4wks until she's 16wks old. The risk for felv increases if she's ever in contact with other cats eg. If neighbors cats come into your yard, or she goes to a boarding facility. If that is the case, she should get the felv (leukemia) vaccine. After the initial 2 doses, felv should be boosted annually. I have a 6 month old kitten who needs her first vaccination. I was wondering if the combination vaccine is appropriate for her or if she's too old for it.. I've never had a kitten this old not be vaccinated
If Asha has never had any vaccinations before, she would need three total vaccines at this point - FVRCP (for feline distemper, along with several common respiratory viruses in cats), feline leukemia, and rabies. The FVRCP and leukemia vaccines often come as a combination vaccine, although they can also be given separately - either option would be fine :) The FVRCP and leukemia vaccines will also need to be boostered in three weeks. After that, both they and the rabies vaccine will be good for at least a year, or possibly longer depending on your veterinarian's typical vaccine protocol.

Vaccines can cause a mild fever that does not require treatment for up to 24 hours. The schedule for boostering the vaccine varies as well depending on the type of vaccine used - most likely the next vaccine is due at one year of age but it’s possible that a booster is needed sooner so you should ask your vet. The FVRCP vaccine is the other core vaccine for cats, and if Minu will be going outdoors or be in contact with other cats the FeLV vaccine is recommended.

Found a teen kitten got her fixed and got rid of her fleas and she is an indoor cat by herself does she need shots? She is almost 2 now
Thank you for using Boop by Petco! It is great that you decided to get your cat fixed! To be considered fully vaccinated, she will need at least a rabies vaccine, FRCP vaccine, and I recommend an FeLV vaccine for outdoor cats. These are all potentially deadly or extremely common viruses that cats can get from each other or wildlife such as raccoons. Although your cat is indoor only, there is a risk that she may run away and be exposed. I recommend having her microchipped and wear a collar in case this happens so that the two of you can be reunited. She should also be on monthly flea control, even f she is only indoors to prevent flea infestations.
