Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 months and 5 days old | 5 lbs

My cat(8monthsmale) got in a fight last night with a female neighbor cat and didn't appear to have any injuries however 24 hours later he is in a lot of pain and cries when touched, still is able to walk but doesn't put much weight on his hindquarters? What should I do?

Hi there. Sorry this happened to Oliver. I really think you need to get him to a vet ASAP. If he is in pain, crying when touched and not walking much on his hindquarters then he needs some pain medication at the very least. He may also need antibiotics if there is wound present you can't see. It is very common for cats, when they get into fights, to have wounds that don't show up until a day or two later when they turn into abscesses. There is no over the counter medication you can give him that are safe. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
