My dog has a small cut on his shoulder/ upper front leg he just got today. He recently started occasionally limping. Should I be worried? Does he need immediate attention?

Did the limping start today? I wonder if Pawl injured a muscle when he got hurt. It sounds like if the limping is intermittent that it might be ok to wait a short while, but I always worry about fractures and if delaying the exam would cause delayed healing as well. However, many soft tissue injuries will heal in their own with a few weeks of strict rear and possibly anti inflammatory medications if he needs them. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian, but as long as the limping is improving then you may be able to wait until next week. As far as the scratch goes, keep it clean and keep her from Licking it. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Hello! That looks like a pretty minor cut, so I think you're safe to keep an eye on it for now. Clean it 1-2 times per day with a warm water washcloth or saline- no need for soaps, ointments, or bandages. I would try to limit his activity over the next few days so that he doesn't open it up any more than it already is. Another thing- don't let him lick it! Many dogs go overboard when they have a tiny cut and make it worse. There are different cone options available at pet stores if you need to get one for him. If it begins to swell, ooze, or become painful then it's time to go to the vet to get any infection under control. I hope this is helpful! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! :)
