My dog struggles with stairs & beds. Is it joint pain? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 8 years and 4 months old | 30 lbs

Today my dog was running and exercising as usual but tonight she began having troubles getting on the beds, climbing stairs and other furniture. She cries like jumping or these kind movements were painful... Ehat could this be? what should I do?

Poor girl. Considering her age she likely has some arthritis setting in her joints. Sometimes joint supplements (ie Dasuquin or Cosequin) can help with pain if it is mild-moderate. However for immediate help with her pain your vet can prescribe some anti-inflammatory (Rimadyl or Meloxicam) and pain medicine (Tramadol) to help with Nila’s comfort. Also the vet will want to check her organs (liver, kidneys, etc) to ensure they are also fine. Best of luck with Nila and I hope she feels better soon. Take care.
